Program Director – Los Angeles Area

                                                 

Type:   Non-exempt, 20 hours per week

Position:    Program Director

Communities:    40-unit independent senior apartment community in Santa Monica and 80-unit independent senior apartment community in Pomona

Compensation:                   $22.00 - $23.00 per hour, DOE                                       

EngAGE is looking for a creative and enthusiastic individual with strong communication and interpersonal skills to build robust and healthy communities through our whole person approach to creative living with programs provided in the arts, wellness, lifelong learning, and community building. This position is for two independent living, affordable older adult communities, located in Santa Monica and Pomona.

EngAGE is a nonprofit that changes lives by transforming affordable apartment communities into vibrant centers of learning, wellness, and creativity – creating life enhancing engagement for people of all ages and cultures.

Program Director Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Develop, organize, and offer on-site programming in the arts, health/wellness, lifelong learning and community building.

  • Work with EngAGE Director of Services (DOS) and Director of Operations (DOO) and other Program Directors to develop innovative programming to further the experience of creative and healthy aging and intergenerational connection for affordable housing residents.

  • Recruit, contract, and communicate with Independent Contractors (teachers), speakers and entertainers.

  • Advertise and promote classes and events and monitor progress and participation.

  • Schedule and facilitate events such as musical performances, birthday celebrations, art shows, and other special community events and workshops.

  • Teach/ facilitate classes and programming as appropriate.

  • Shop for supplies for events and programming.

Build Relationships:

  • Meet regularly with property management to ensure good communication, collaborate on community building programming ideas, and ensure all programming complies with building rules and policies.

  • Research and gather information on local resources and organizations for partnering and collaborations.
    Meet with residents to take a pulse on the community’s needs and to brainstorm ideas for programs and events.

  • Hold office hours to connect residents with relevant resources and services in the community to support resident stability and wellbeing.

  • Model supportive listening and communication techniques to support community building.

General Administration

·         Generate monthly calendars and program fliers.

  • Submit monthly program reports using Excel and Word.

  • Monitor program budgets and expenses using Google Sheets, reconcile credit card expenditures in online app, and manage documentation for Independent Contractors

  • Attend scheduled team meetings and monthly All Staff virtual meeting.

 Work Environment

·         This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely involves standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.

 Physical Demands

·         The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. This position would also require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand on a stool as necessary.

Required Education, Experience and Qualifications

·         Bachelor’s degree is not required, but preferred

·         Knowledge of senior communities in affordable housing

·         Excellent judgement and active listening

·         Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities, including proficiency in program development responsibilities

·         Ability to be flexible with hours when needed.

·         Computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and Outlook)

·         Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills and ability to build relationships with coworkers, and community partners from diverse backgrounds.

·         Demonstrated ability to establish priorities, implement plans, and meet deadlines.

·         Current valid California state driver’s license, comprehensive insurance, and good driving record.

  • Fluent in English (speaking and writing), bilingual a plus.
