Broadleaf Arbor - Program Assistant

Type:                                       Non-exempt, 15-20 hours per week

Compensation:                   $19-22 per hour, DOE

EngAGE Northwest is looking for a creative and enthusiastic individual, with strong communication and social skills to build community and deliver programs in an affordable housing community in St Helens, Oregon. Using EngAGE’s whole person approach to creative living, the Program Assistant will facilitate and oversee programs in the arts, health and wellness, lifelong learning, and community building. Reporting to the EngAGE Northwest Executive Director, the Program Assistant works closely with the Broadleaf Arbor Program Director and is part of EngAGE’s national team of Program Directors. The Program Assistant collaborates with onsite staff at the housing community and with the community service partners.

Program Assistant Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Develop, organize, and offer on-site programming in the arts, health/wellness, lifelong learning and community building.

•        Work with EngAGE Northwest Executive Director, COO, and the Broadleaf Arbor Program Director to develop innovative programming to support the experience of creative and healthy living

•        Recruit, contract, and communicate with skilled teaching artists, speakers and entertainers

•        Advertise and promote classes and events to residents, and monitor progress and participation in programming

•        In collaboration with the Program Director, schedule and facilitate events such as musical performances, birthday celebrations, art shows, and special community events and workshops. Partner with local organizations to produce classes, events, and celebrations

•         Teach / facilitate classes and programming as appropriate

•        Shop for supplies for events and programming

•        Assist with the community food pantry including picking up food from the local food bank and distributing pantry food to residents.

Build Relationships

•           Meet with residents to take a pulse on the community’s needs and brainstorm ideas for programs

•           Model supportive listening and communication techniques to support community building

•           Hold office hours to connect residents with relevant resources and services in the community to support resident stability and wellbeing

•           Meet monthly with the Community Partners and property management to ensure good communication and that all programming complies with building policies

General Administrative

•        Collaborate with the Program Director to generate monthly calendars, program fliers, and program reports

•        Reconcile credit card expenditures, manage documentation for Independent, Contractors, and coordinate with Program Director to monitor monthly program budget

•        Attend scheduled team meetings and monthly All Staff virtual meetings

Qualifications  

•           Outgoing, team player with optimistic outlook and good judgment

•           Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

•           Adaptable, and able to function well independently in a dynamic work environment

•           Familiarity with computer programs necessary for reporting including Excel and Word

•           Experience working with older adults, with kids, and/or working with low-income residents and individuals with different lived experiences is a plus.

•           Knowledge of local arts community and other potential community partners a plus

•           Interest in gardening a plus

Benefits and Compensation

·         Job Type: Part-time 15 to 20 hours per week

·         Afternoon and Weekend coverage required

·         Hourly Wage: $19.00 to $22.00 per hour

·         Paid holidays and sick leave
